Autumn Details and Abstracts

It is about 15 degrees outside right now as I write this. The first morning where the temps here at my cabin have dropped down into the teens. The golden days of autumn already seem long gone, and I’m just waiting, almost impatiently, for the first snow fall of the year. It has been a glorious late autumn, the temperatures have been moderate, climbing into the 40s throughout the first two weeks of October. But now it is growing cold, and the days shorter. Without snow, the nights are incredibly dark.

Today, in honor of the now passed autumn, I’m posting some images, all made on the same day a few weeks ago, during a walk with my dog. I was just playing with the camera, messing with blurs, or stopping to take quick snaps of the last of the colors. It is good to play with a camera. So often I run the risk of the camera becoming a work tool, more than a toy. I got into photography, as most of us did, because I loved it. I love the feel of the camera in my hand, the crackle of the shutter and the images glowing, as though by magic, on the back of the camera. So occasionally, to remind myself of this, I go outside and play.
